I got my first jury duty thing in the mail today. I hope it’s not as boring as I hear it usually is. I also hope it’s not a murder/ rape/ assault case, because then I’ll be up all night wondering if our verdict was wrong.

This is all assuming they choose me in the first place, of course.

how long is it for? One day/one trial?

my county used to be one week or one trial. that was a pain in the ass.

and sadly, the three times I’ve been actually called in for jury selection, all three were CSC with an underage victim. never got seated, don’t know if I could stomach it.

Let your employer know asap. They might be able to get you out of if your job is of importance, or they could say that it would cause Rainbow financial hardship. It worked for me.

I’ll be up all night wondering if our verdict was wrong.

Repeat this during jury selection and you might get out of it. :-)x

Not sure yet. My dad just texted me that I got it, but I’m not home yet to open it.

Honestly, I kinda hate my job. This will be a nice change of pace for a day or two. Hopefully not much longer, but you never know.

I narrowly escaped being selected as a juror for this 2-week murder trial last month. Good luck.

One of my employees got called up for last week, although it was a bit of a hardship, I told her to just go do it. That way she’s off the list for 3 years and doesn’t have to worry about it again for at least that long. If they granted an exception, that would only be good for a year and I'd rather it be over with like peeling off a Band Aid.

My plan was to just tell them I was racist against everybody. Didn't work though, they didn't even give me a chance to try it.

If you want to avoid being selected, just tell them that you think jury nullification is an important part of our justice system.

Or use the Liz Lemon approach:

But don’t worry; if you do get selected, it will probably be boring.

Working in a county building, I have to deal with potential jurors every morning. Here’s my advice: scope out the parking situation before you get there. Know if you need cash and/or a credit card to pay for parking. Scope out the lots so you know how it works. Some are pay before you park, some require you to get the space number before you pay for parking and others you take a ticket before you park and park wherever you want in the lot.

When you go to the courthouse or jury assembly area, READ THE #%{**]# SIGNS!! They will tell you where to go and what to do.

Get there early. Really early. I’m not kidding, don’t be on time or late, be early.

If you have to ask questions, don’t ask the parking attendant, don’t ask the people who look like they’re trying to get to work (they probably are), look for an officer of the court.

Pay attention to what they ask you to wear. Not doing so can put you in contempt of court and you might end up with a fine. I’ve seen court officers griping at potential jurors about being inappropriately dressed.

Go and have fun. It’s an all-day process at the least and can be once or more a month for a year if you are selected for a grand jury (my uncle ended up on a grand jury in Texas). Be respectful and polite. Answer their questions honestly and it will all be fine.

It will be as boring as you think.

Bring something to read, and bring snacks so you don’t have to deal with vending. With any luck, you’ll be out before lunch anyway.

If you want to be off the jury, saying that last part would do it in many places. Emotional stress/trauma.
